While the loot specialization has it’s obvious perks, it also has its downside if you’re not careful. One of the things that can happen to you is forgetting to switch back to your original spec. This already happened to me a few times, even earning me gear that I wish could’ve gone towards my main spec. I did manage to find one loot spec add on called Auto Loot Spec but it’s still in beta.
Either way, it’s a somewhat poor UI decision in that you could easily accidentally waste tokens or roles on things you really don’t need at the moment. Of course, single role classes like mages and the warlock won’t ever have this type of issue. But on classes like a death knight or paladin, it’s easy to forget about the role you’ve selected.
Honestly, I wish that rather than making the loot selection come from the character’s portrait, you could simply select the loot role when a piece of gear is being rolled on. It might not necessarily be a huge gripe overall but it’s something that does need a little revision for those of us who are getting somewhat senile.
