Today is another Imitation Game days. In short, plenty of resources, fully boosted statues and getting the chance to see the potential full power of my squad as both accounts barrel forward.
In this post, I’m not going to create a giant rant about p2win type of games or features. The thing about Boom Beach is that you can play without paying a single dime. In truth, it’s one of the better freemium games that I’ve tried in this genre. That said, I think it does suffer from that stigma of requiring some sort of monetary investment in order to be fun. Even before that issue arises, there’s a bigger issue at stake: the low level grind.
From the weekend until today, I managed to push a Landing Craft level 16. For the first 12 levels, I spent Diamonds to upgrade my newest Landing Craft, something I considered employing a Builder instead. Now that I managed to hit my first goal, I want to re-examine if a Builder is really worth subscribing at this stage in the game.
Over on the reddit forums, an official FAQ went out on the new Builders talking about their decision making process for adding Builders to the game. One particular nugget of information though was that they also admitted that they were not immediately working on an HQ 23, although in the future they might. What does this imply?
Supercell just released an optional update to Boom Beach where for $2.99/month (in the US) you can subscribe to gain a second Builder. I want to examine the idea behind this feature and talk about the controversy of this move in this blog post.
