Today, I had a long day outside my place for once helping a friend with her project. Unfortunately, that left me with little time nor energy when I got back. On top of that, I was hungry and dinner knocked me out for a few hours and gave me only two hours of play time. But I figured why not, let’s give the ol’ D4 a spin. So the main thing was starting up a Necromancer.
The Necromancer I went with was your usual Minion build. I find Minions reliable and you can AFK certain scenarios and deal with early game bosses before you have decent gear. But the main build I want to try is the Shadowblight build which uses the season chaos perk Alter the Balance. At least from what I’ve seen, the main thing you do is spam Soulrift which is like a Darkness version of Blood Surge since your ultimate skills become core skills with an essence cost.
Unlike my other recent characters, I didn’t use the reputation scrolls as much to boost myself for the spark. I felt that I was lacking in too much gear, even though I have enough for another spark. But since my last two characters were pushed very quickly, I lost interest fast or built them weird. For this character, I just wanted to level normally, pick up the various recipes and go through the motions especially because minions are easy to level. Also, I still have some non-class specific perks that are already leveled for which I can employ. The unique one for Necromancers I would still be required to get through the normal reputation grind/season quest.
At any rate, I’m thinking I’ll stick with the minion build for now and swap over once I obtain some of the key uniques. I might even have a few sitting in my stash but I haven’t checked. But this is one build I wanted to give a shot to just because it’s going to last this season (as far as we know). The other supposedly really powerful build is the Blood Wave build. Since I’ve done Blood Wave in the past, I’m less compelled to try that one again. However, the key difference is that Alter the Balance would make Blood Wave more spammable.
Besides, giving the new build a try, my other goal is to see what type of Mythic I can craft on the necromancer as I had encouraging results from my Rogue. I’m really hoping to be able to craft either a Helm of Perdition or Shako. Even a Grandfather would not be bad because my Barbarian could still employ that. Yet I’m still down one spark and need to either shard some spare Mythic or create another character just for the cache.
If I can get my Necromancer to level 60 tomorrow (which is a Friday), I’ll probably spend the weekend getting her more gear organically. Then maybe Sunday, I can create a second seasonal sorcerer to build up a Ball Lightning build as I do have quite a bit of spare gear there. Then I can dump the remaining reputation scrolls on that character to make an attempt for one more seasonal mythic craft. If I manage to get a Helm of Perdition, I’ll play a little longer because the season has been fun and I have several characters that I haven’t truly pushed much beyond my Hydra Sorcerer. But to get anymore mileage from her, I would need a Shako and I don’t see myself randomly dropping another mythic anytime soon.
Finally, I read that a patch may be issued next week. For one, I’m hoping they address the Wildrage aspect along with the bizarre effects from A Cornered Beast (which seems like such a super shady perk) as well as the highly unpopular revamped Soulspire system. While I doubt new features are going to get pushed out, I do hope these things along with other bizarre bugs get addressed.
Now, the main thing that many people have mentioned is that they’d love to see a lot of the features if not all of the features from this season to make it to the core of the game. Without a doubt, Chaos Armor is probably the number one popular thing. Unless Blizzard introduces something like a Kanai’s Cube to extract a unique’s power and apply it to other gear slots, I believe most people want Chaos Armor to stay in the game because it gave many of us a new item hunt and really helped expand upon the build possibilities.
I think likewise many people have really enjoyed the chaos perks. For me the big difference makers have been Mana Shield and Alter the Balance. Both have really made game play more enjoyable or changed the way one could play a class. With Mana Shield, we can ditch Frost Armor and select a different skill and Alter the Balance gives us a way to spam an Ultimate rather than rely on a cooldown. But those ideas are what has helped build diversity and permitted new ways to play the game. Some people have suggested these abilities become part of the classes themselves. If they do reintroduce these perks, the main thing would be avoiding making them into some lame aspect or Unique that we need to sacrifice yet another limited gear slot similar to Vampiric powers and the rings.
