Someone told me a funny story about how when they passed through Russia, everyone cheered upon landing. Now, that this incident occurred, I can see why. Actually, this event points towards why planes must be re-invented. They are literally like bombs carrying innocent people. Certainly, the number of crashes are fairly low when you consider how many flights occur all the time. Nonetheless, when it occurs it's such a huge deal that people become unnerved by it. Car crashes and such occur more frequently, yet because they typically affect a limited number of people, no one makes such a big fuss. On the other hand, planes are death traps. There's just no way to survive a plane crash. You rarely hear people walking away from these things. I mean, where can you go? The truth is for aviation to improve, people must consider moving away from these monstrous death traps towards smaller, more agile vehicles that can cross great distances. This is what will make flying safer in the long term.
