Excess is the perfect word to describe this set. Originally, I thought Lego had outdone themselves in ushering this set, but as I suspected it isn't built that well. Very unstable and far too big. The landing gear is a complete joke; you have to large feet that supposedly supports this thing, but they tend to snap off very easily when the ship tilts to the side. Also, the bulk of the ship composed of these four huge "wing-like" plates are held up weakly via magnets so you get that slanting effect along the hull. These plate structure is incredibly flimsy yet heavy all the same. I had an issue in missing a plate so i couldn't finish the rest of the structure. That caused the ship to tilt; you could see how the landing gear at that point wasn't well thought out. The control tower sitting on top is quite heavy and delicate. It rest but does not lock into anything. So it's quite simple to rip it off, causing the rest of the ship to take a tumble if you're not careful. Overall, it took me a few days to complete where I spent the majority of the time sifting through the parts, attempting to locate very tiny pieces. In hindsight, this set is something you build just once and utilize the parts for something else that's elaborate like a customized aircraft carrier. It has a lot of useful parts like the plates, the long 16 x 1 girders, and many forms of wing sections. If I have the time (and space) someday, I'd like to use those parts for something like an aircraft carrier to host the various X-Wings and ships I have. Until then, I'm going to wait and leave it in the box.
